Albumin Bioconjugation
CJC-1295 is built on the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone-releasing hormone, the fragment that carries its biological activity, with amino acid substitutions that improve resistance to enzymatic breakdown. What distinguishes the DAC form is the Drug Affinity Complex: a reactive maleimide-containing linker attached to the peptide. After the peptide enters a biological system, that linker is designed to form a covalent bond with albumin, the most abundant protein in blood. Because albumin itself circulates for a long time, the attached peptide is protected from rapid clearance.
