01 / The compound

Understand
the starting point.

Neurotrophin expression & neuronal signaling

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the amino-acid sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (MEHFPGP). Its structure combines the ACTH(4-7) sequence with the C-terminal tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro. Scientific literature also commonly refers to Semax as an ACTH(4-10) analogue.

Research on Semax has focused largely on neurotrophin signaling, gene expression, neuronal signaling, and experimental neurological models. Much of the mechanistic evidence comes from cell and animal research, so findings should be interpreted within the specific models in which they were observed.

02 / Research profile

The pathways.
The possibilities.

Published Semax research has examined neurotrophin signaling, gene expression, neuronal signaling, and experimental neurological models. Much of the mechanistic evidence is preclinical, so the study type should remain clear wherever findings are described.

01 / Research focus

Neurotrophin Signaling

Rat studies have reported Semax-associated changes in BDNF and NGF gene expression, while additional research has examined BDNF protein levels and TrkB-related signaling. These findings should be interpreted within the specific preclinical models and experimental conditions studied.

02 / Research focus

Experimental Neurological Models

Semax has been studied in experimental models of cerebral ischemia. In a rat focal-ischemia model, researchers observed Semax-associated changes in the expression of genes involved in immune and vascular processes. These findings describe responses observed in an experimental animal model and should be interpreted within that model and its experimental conditions.

03 / Research focus

Current Mechanistic Research

Research into Semax's cellular mechanisms is ongoing. A 2025 study using rat brain neurons found changes in spontaneous intracellular calcium activity but did not find a significant effect on proton-stimulated calcium entry in the experimental system examined. The authors concluded that attenuation of calcium entry through acid-sensing ion channels was unlikely to be the primary mechanism in that model.

Reading the evidence

Semax has an established preclinical research literature involving neuronal signaling, neurotrophin expression and gene regulation. Published laboratory studies have examined BDNF-related signaling, TrkB expression, transcriptional responses following experimental ischemia and intracellular calcium dynamics in neuronal models. The evidence presented on this summary should remain focused on these laboratory and animal research systems.

How testing works
01 / Purity

What is in the sample?

HPLC separates components under a defined method. Read the reported percentage alongside the chromatogram, wavelength, integration method, and scope of the test.

02 / Identity

Is it the expected compound?

Mass spectrometry provides molecular-mass evidence. Identity and chromatographic purity answer different questions; one cannot stand in for the other.

03 / Traceability

Does the report match the vial?

Connect the product name, variant, lot identifier, report date, and issuing laboratory. A report is useful only when its sample can be linked to the material being reviewed.

Independent analysis

Every Semax lot is analyzed by Nordicstar Analytical Sciences for identity, content, and purity by HPLC with LC-MS confirmation. Each certificate carries a report number and verification key that can be checked at nordicstarlabs.com/verify. Research references below describe published science, not a certificate for a vial.

05 / Storage & handling

Care for
the material.

Store unopened Semax according to the product label and lot-specific documentation. Keep the vial sealed, dry and protected from unnecessary exposure to light and moisture. Storage requirements can vary with peptide form and formulation.

06 / Common questions

A little more
understanding.

What is the Semax sequence?

Semax is the seven-residue peptide Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (MEHFPGP). It combines ACTH(4–7) with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro sequence and is often described as an ACTH(4–10) analogue.

Is its cellular mechanism fully resolved?

No. Research explores several signaling pathways. In a cited 2025 rat-neuron study, changes in spontaneous calcium activity were observed, but attenuation of proton-stimulated calcium entry was not supported as the primary mechanism in that model.
