Peptide structure
The linear sequence contains norleucine at position 4 and D-phenylalanine at position 7. These substitutions distinguish afamelanotide from endogenous α-MSH and underpin structure–activity comparisons.

Afamelanotide · MC1R & peptide structure research
Melanotan 1 is a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Also known as afamelanotide and NDP-MSH, it is a linear peptide composed of 13 amino-acid residues.
Its structure differs from endogenous α-MSH at two positions: norleucine replaces methionine at position 4, while D-phenylalanine replaces L-phenylalanine at position 7. These substitutions are defining structural features of afamelanotide.
02 / Research profile
Published research has investigated afamelanotide through the melanocortin receptor system, particularly the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R).
MC1R is a G-protein-coupled receptor. Activation by an agonist stimulates adenylyl cyclase and increases intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP), initiating downstream signaling involved in melanocyte biology and melanin production. Structural research has directly examined afamelanotide bound to MC1R and characterized receptor-ligand interactions within the melanocortin signaling system.
These findings provide structural and mechanistic context for studying Melanotan 1 within controlled laboratory and receptor-model systems.
The linear sequence contains norleucine at position 4 and D-phenylalanine at position 7. These substitutions distinguish afamelanotide from endogenous α-MSH and underpin structure–activity comparisons.
Structural research examines afamelanotide bound to the melanocortin-1 receptor and maps peptide–receptor interactions. Cellular signaling studies connect receptor activation with adenylyl cyclase and intracellular cAMP.
Melanotan I is a linear 13-residue analogue; Melanotan II is a shorter cyclic analogue with a different receptor profile. The two compounds are not interchangeable research identities.
Reading the evidence
The cited findings describe the compound in the experimental systems used. Cellular, biochemical and animal results should be interpreted according to their model, methods and endpoints; they do not establish the performance of a GLPZone lot.

Variant amounts are nominal catalog quantities. They are not instructions for use.
HPLC separates components under a defined method. Read the reported percentage alongside the chromatogram, wavelength, integration method, and scope of the test.
Mass spectrometry provides molecular-mass evidence. Identity and chromatographic purity answer different questions; one cannot stand in for the other.
Connect the product name, variant, lot identifier, report date, and issuing laboratory. A report is useful only when its sample can be linked to the material being reviewed.
Every Melanotan-1 lot is analyzed by Nordicstar Analytical Sciences for identity, content, and purity by HPLC with LC-MS confirmation. Each certificate carries a report number and verification key that can be checked at nordicstarlabs.com/verify. Research references below describe published science, not a certificate for a vial.

05 / Storage & handling
Keep sealed research material protected from moisture, unnecessary light and temperature fluctuations. Use the storage conditions documented for the specific compound, formulation and lot.
Solution stability depends on solvent, concentration, container and experimental conditions. Use a validated laboratory protocol; a universal post-reconstitution shelf life is not established by the literature summaries.

Afamelanotide, NDP-MSH and Melanotan I are names associated with the same linear 13-residue α-MSH analogue. A molecular name alone does not establish equivalence between different formulations or supplied lots.
Norleucine replaces methionine at position 4, and D-phenylalanine replaces L-phenylalanine at position 7. These are defining structural features used in the cited receptor and analogue research.
